Know the Game
The rules of pickleball and the unwritten code of the court — explore it, don't just read it.
Tap a Zone to Learn It
Every part of the court has its own rule. Poke around — tap the kitchen, the baseline, the service boxes — and learn the game one zone at a time.
The Kitchen
The 7-foot zone on each side of the net. You can't volley — hit the ball out of the air — while standing in it or even touching its line. Let the ball bounce here first, then you're free to swing.
The Flow of the Game
Every rally begins with an underhand serve from behind the baseline.
- Contact the ball below your waist with an upward swing.
- Keep both feet behind the baseline until the ball is struck.
- Serve diagonally — cross-court into the opposite service box.
- The serve must clear the kitchen and its line to be good.
Court Etiquette
The rules keep it fair. These keep it fun. Play by the code and you'll always have a game.
Call It Out
Say the score clearly before every single serve — no quiet serves.
Mix It Up
Introduce yourself and rotate in with new players during open play.
Chase Strays
Grab loose balls and return them safely to the neighboring courts.
Paddle Tap
Tap paddles at the end of every game — win or lose, always.
Stay Positive
Hype up beginners and skip the coaching unless someone asks for it.
Respect the Court
Wear non-marking shoes and help leave the courts cleaner than you found them.
